E-6 Visa Subtypes Korea — E-6-1 Arts & Entertainment, E-6-2 Hotel & Entertainment Venues, E-6-3 Sports
The E-6 (예술흥행) visa covers foreigners working in arts, entertainment, and performance in Korea — but the three subtypes are legally very different. E-6-1 (예술·연예) covers artists and professional entertainers such as musicians, actors, broadcasters and models. E-6-2 (호텔·유흥) covers performers at tourist hotels and entertainment venues. E-6-3 (운동) covers professional athletes, coaches and their managers. The distinctions matter enormously for legal protections and venue eligibility.

E-6-1: Arts and entertainment (예술·연예)
E-6-1 is the main arts and entertainment category. The visa manual lists composers, painters, photographers and other artists, orchestra players and conductors, advertising and fashion models, Go (baduk) players, broadcasters, entertainers (연예인), theatre performers and make-up artists.
Who qualifies: • Classical musicians, conductors performing at recognized concert halls (예술의전당, 세종문화회관, philharmonic orchestras) • Opera singers, ballet dancers, contemporary dance artists engaged by registered performing arts organizations • Theater actors and directors at registered theater companies • Visual artists on residency programs at registered arts institutions
Venue requirement: The sponsor must be a registered arts organization or venue under the Culture and Arts Promotion Act (문화예술진흥법).
Duration: Duration of the performance contract or residency, typically 1–2 years.
E-6-2: Hotel and entertainment venues (호텔·유흥) and venue restrictions
E-6-2 covers people who do not fall under E-6-1 and who perform or entertain at hotel facilities and entertainment venues under the Tourism Promotion Act (관광진흥법).
Who qualifies: Singers, musicians, acrobats and magicians performing at tourist hotels and similar tourist venues. Broadcasters, entertainers (연예인) and other professional performers, which is where K-pop artists fit, come under E-6-1, not E-6-2.
Critical venue restrictions (trafficking prevention policy): • Where a performance recommendation is given: The Korea Media Rating Board (영상물등급위원회) recommends music, singing, acrobatic and magic performances at tourist businesses only for clubs on US Forces Korea bases, tourist hotels of grade 3 or higher under the Tourism Promotion Act, tourist cruise ships, resort condominiums, tourist theatre entertainment businesses (관광극장유흥업), foreigner-only restaurants (외국인전용음식점) and facilities attached to international convention venues. Song-and-dance shows at registered performance halls in tourist businesses and at amusement parks (Everland, Lotte World, Seoul Land and similar) can also be recommended • Not covered: Venues outside that list, such as ordinary 단란주점 (karaoke-style bars) and 유흥주점 (hostess bars), do not get a recommendation, so E-6-2 work there is not possible
Government protections: • Sponsoring agency must be registered with the MOJ as an entertainment management agency (흥행 기획업자) • Immigration conducts regular compliance checks • E-6-2 holders who are victims of exploitation have special protections — contact 1345 (immigration) or 117 (trafficking hotline)
E-6-3: Sports (운동)
E-6-3 covers foreign nationals working in the sports field.
Who qualifies: Professional athletes in football, baseball, basketball and other sports, professional team coaches, and the managers who accompany them.
The visa manual does not put personal trainers, cosmeticians or craft instructors under E-6-3; the code is for sports (운동) only.

Tipps von 행정사
E-6-2 sponsors: verify your agency is registered with the MOJ as a 흥행 기획업자 before signing any contract.
E-6-2 performers: keep a copy of your contract and report any attempt to move you to a prohibited venue (단란주점/유흥주점). Call 117 (trafficking hotline) if needed.

Häufig gestellte Fragen
Can a foreign K-pop trainee get an E-6 visa?
No — a trainee is not yet a performing entertainer. Training contracts are typically handled under D-4 or D-1, not E-6. Working entertainers (연예인) come under E-6-1; E-6-2 is only for performers at hotels and entertainment venues.
